Class Overall

Mr. Sweeney’s has been an adventure. First I thought we were going to write a few papers and be done, but I actually enjoy being in his class. Mr. Sweeney is very silly and funny and teachers aren’t usually like that. Others are like strict and unpleasant. I don’t think teachers are supposed to be pleasant or even interesting for that matter haha but Mr. Sweeney is. Anyway, I really enjoy the discussions we have in class. There about serious matters that people would actually care about rather than something random from a text book. I find it interesting to hear others views and opinions. The paper topics are great too, they not about boring things that no one cares about. And on top of that we get to pick the topic. Honestly, I’m going to miss this class. Every day I leave with a great experience or a lot of knowledge points. I hope everyone in his class is having a good experience as I am. Well, have a good week everyoneJ. Until next week. (Maybe)

Things are going well. This summer is going to be great! I just found out my little brother got his first job. My older brother is graduating from college May. And as for me, I’m buying my first car (by myself) and I’m finishing my first year of college. I’m not quite sure what my major is or what college I want to attend in fall 2014 but I have all summer to figure it outJ. As you can probably tell, I’m very excited. This semester is flying by so quickly, were almost in the final month. Honestly, I’ve enjoyed this year academic wise. Next year I will have a car to actually go places and explore so I’m looking forward to that as well. After this blog, I have one more that I have to write to get a good grade but I might keep writing. They aren’t as bad as I thought it was going to be when he first mentioned it to us early in the semester. Welp, until my next and possibly final blog, have a great week!

Spring Break

As we all know Richard Bland’s spring break begins tomorrow. I always wondered why all of our breaks are delayed compared to other schools. Anyway, my plans are to work, prepare for the week back to school and relax. Most people are planning a big trip, partying all week or even sleep, but I’ve decided not to take that rout, at least not yet. Maybe next year when I have a car and more prepared financially, to go on a big trip somewhere.  My older brother went to Miami for his spring break this year. (I was so jealous Haha) This means that I have to step it up and plan an even better trip, maybe to Miami. Spring break is supposed to be a break but honestly it doesn’t feel like a break is needed since we just got back to school just a little over a month ago. Maybe that’s just me, but instead of using the week to be lazy and lay around, I’m going to use it to get ahead. Therefore, when I have the proper materials (car, extra money, a destination, etc.) I’m going to work hard weeks before spring break so when I do take that big trip, I will definitely have a great time!

Second essay

The second paper we are supposed to write is under the topic of crime and punishment.  I find this topic difficult because there in only a few topics that interest me under this topic. I was thinking of writing about paddling in schools but I’m not sure if I can make the 1500 words. But on the other hand writing comes easy to me therefore I’m sure I can do itJ. The other topic I was considering how I think they should change the mental hospital systems but I don’t see how that fits the topic. Although I find both topics interesting I’m still hesitative on what I’m going to write about. I should probably get the writing since the paper is due soon then I’m going to have to write another one under the topic of education which will be easy because I already know what I’m going to write about !

Visual Literacy

Last week I explained the college we did in art appreciation and last class we sent our colleges around the class for people to guess what the pictures represented. I must admit, I was excited to see what people thought about my college. I hoped they would guess correctly on what my pictures represented. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in my results. The whole point of this project was to test people’s visual literacy but based on my results the 3 people who had my college visual literacy isn’t that great. They looked at my art and saw what was there but not what each picture represented. For instance, I put a picture of a dog on the college. Instead of reading what the dog was doing (it was lying down, which was representing laziness) they just said I liked dogs. Maybe the people who got mine didn’t take the examination of my art seriously.  I got a good great so, oh well I guess. Maybe I’ll post the college next week to see if you can guess!

Me with no words

Were supposed to blog about what we talk about in class, so I will…just not Mr. Sweeney’s class. Haha, well at least not in this blog. Anyway, I take art appreciation with Ms. Delano which I thought I wouldn’t enjoy (Does art appreciation sound interesting to you?) but overall it’s a pretty cool class. She assigned us to make a self-portrait without using a picture of ourselves or words. Basically were making a collage with pictures to describe ourselves. First, I thought this was going to be difficult but when I started looking up pictures it became fun to describe myself without words. Of course it’s a little challenging but if it were really easy, I don’t think that would be fun. I got stuck a few times because I ran out of words but I just asked s few people who knew me well to help me get back on track. The collage is due tomorrow and I’m excited to see what people think of it. Maybe for my blog for next week I’ll explain what I did. J

Writers block I guess

Today I planned on writing my paper to turn it in next week. It’s been an hour and here I am eating waffles as I think “this is going to be harder than I thought.” My topic is whether abortions should be legalized or not in America, which is a very heated topic. I’m not sure why I’m stuck but a possibility is that these waffles and 106 & Park are distracting.  On top of that although abortions are serious business, it’s not a topic I personally jump out my seat for but I picked it because it was one of the most heated topics we came up with in class. Maybe it would have been a better idea for me to brainstorm more to pick a better topic to make my paper easier but I already started writing and don’t want to start over with such little time. Hahaha. Although I rather have a different topic, I enjoy writing and this paper, like every paper I write, will be a good one.

No idea which to pick

Wednesday in class we filled the board with Pop Culture topics to write for our first paper. Out of over 50 topics I have narrowed it down to 3. The first one I was considering was about the show “Bad Girls Club”. If your unfamiliar with the show is about pretty woman between the ages of maybe 21-25 who consider them self bad girls or bad b***hes. I was going to write about the pros and cons of this show. But unfortunately I can’t figure out how to turn this into an argumentative and not bias. The second topic I was considering was the show “Beyond Scared Straight”. This show is about out of control teens taking a tour of a jail to get them to realize that they need to change. I was thinking about how they should have that program associated with schools everywhere and how it may not be a good idea. Although this is a good topic I’m not sure if that’s argumentative enough or what kind of research I would have other than statistics about out of control teens or maybe examples from the actual show. My third topic was abortion but that’s a common topic so I don’t want to write about it. Hahaha. The rough draft is due Monday so I need to decide quickly.

This is ridiculous

The other day I was randomly checking my yahoo account when I saw “15 year old girl shot and killed days after preforming at Obamas inauguration” on my news feed, which didn’t shock me. After the shooting at the elementary school, my mind will probably never get as blown again. Naturally, I read the article. Reportedly the girl was hanging at the park around the corner from her school with other friends when an unknown person came through and started shooting. She was shot in the back and one of her friends was shot in the leg but still living and they weren’t the targets. This is ridiculous, like really who does that! Today I was checking my yahoo again and a boy was shot at his middle school. What is going on in people’s minds! There are some mentally unstable people with guns out there. If you’re going through something and want to let loose do everyone a favor and get a hobby or play a killing video game and go nuts! If you’re bored get a life and if you’re depressed talk to somebody! People really piss me off when they do things like this and gun violence is getting out of control. Boom! Another innocent and young life gone because of an irresponsible person. Somebody (maybe the government, parents, siblings, kids, or peers) need to fix this because too many people are dying from a bullet.

Three essays

Last class we had to pick three topics for what essays we are going to write this semester. That doesn’t sound very difficult but it was since everyone had to agree on the same three topics out of about eight topics Mr. Sweeney picked and there’s about 24 people in the class. In the beginning everyone was listening but no one was talking. Then everyone talked but no one listened. After a while Mr. Sweeney helped us get things a little more organized. By the end of the class we all agreed on one topic.  It was hard for everyone to agree mainly because people were putting other opinions down more than convincing them to change their minds. I also realized that people weren’t giving any specific topics to help convince people to agree. I think the class has to understand that we have to put some of our views aside to come to a final decision. On Friday we have to come to the conclusion of three topics. I plan to give topics to help the class decide and to be open minded on others opinions. Hopefully in class everyone will do the same so we can get started on our essays.
